Housewarming Party Essentials

Creativity & Design

Hosting a housewarming party will often be the first big event that takes place in your home, and it could even be your first time planning a party in your own home, period. Though our main job is to build the house you’ll eventually be warming, we want to make sure you’ve got all of the tips, tricks and essentials to make your housewarming a hit!

1) Dashing Décor. Although a housewarming party is a celebration of a huge milestone for people, another hallmark of attending a housewarming party is for guests to see your new home in its entirety.  For this reason, we suggest going “light” on the traditional party décor (i.e. balloons, streamers, banners, etc.). Finding the perfect balance between making your home look housewarming ready and making it look like the site of a Sweet 16 can be a fine line to tread, so, use your best judgement. Seasonal décor can help add an elegant sheen to your decorations, so consider sticking within the appropriate seasonal color palette.

2) Toe-Tapping Tunes. Filling your beautiful new home with friends and family is also a prime opportunity to fill it with a fun mix of your favorite music, adding even more of your personality to the ambiance. Just remember that a good playlist features a little bit of everything, so, if you’ve got a one-track mind when it comes to music, consider using a premade playlist built on music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

In today’s smart home age, there are plenty of affordable and useful means of playing music at your housewarming. Picking up something like an Amazon Echo or Bose SoundLink Revolve will allow you to properly fill any room with tunes, while also giving you the ability to take the music to where the party is at, whether that’s upstairs, downstairs or in the backyard.

3) Mouthwatering Menu. Part of hosting a housewarming party is making sure that everyone feels at home…at least for a couple of hours. So, that means ensuring that everyone is well fed and watered. Often, housewarmings are marked by intermittent traffic and visitors, so a menu that allows for people to stop by, grab a plate and still mingle is imperative. The easiest choice would be to defer to a caterer or any restaurant that caters, but if you’re up for the challenge, cooking some of your best homemade dishes would be an awesome way to let people in on the full experience of your new home.

4) Perfect Pictures. Although this could be filed under the decorations paragraph, we felt it needed special distinction. Putting together a board of pictures from previous homes is a cute and interesting way to show just how far you’ve come and how much you’ve grown. If it happens to be your first housewarming, you can always use pictures from your childhood homes. This also gives you a great reason to snap a couple of pictures to add to the board should you ever find yourself warming another home in the future.
