Activities to do at Home This Winter

Lombardo Living

Winter is well underway, making this the perfect time to hunker down and stay at home. The cold weather doesn’t have to freeze all your plans, though—in fact, now is a great time to tackle projects you might have been putting off and dabble in some new ideas! Make the most of this colder season and what it has to offer with some fun and interesting activities to do at home this winter.

Decorating. Get those creative juices flowing by decorating your home, both inside and out. Create a wreath from pine cones to put on your front door. Cut out and hang paper snowflakes around your rooms and spaces. Make fake snow to decorate tables and spray windows for a frosty look. If you have dishes with seasonal designs or colors, set them out to be seen. Outside, you can put up lanterns or string lights to create an ambient look during nighttime.

Cooking and Baking. Like autumn, winter is a nostalgic season that is perfect for warm, homemade flavors. Use this time to improve your home cooking skills, teach family recipes to your kids, and try new flavors. Make your own homemade hot chocolate, hot cider, pies, cookies, and soups.

Outdoor Fun. Though cold, the outside world can provide a plethora of activities you can only do this time of year. Build a snowman or have a snowball fight with your family. If your kids are looking for more interaction, you can set up a “fairy garden” to allow neighbors to leave trinkets and notes to make things feel more magical. Even just enjoying the crunch of the snow beneath your shoes and the fresh air for a moment is a good way to relax.

Indoor Activities. This is the perfect time to take up a hobby for the season! Painting, crafting, knitting, and crocheting are all fun to do at home. With plethora of online tutorials, there are other unique pastimes you can try, like making scrapbooking or bullet journaling, both of which can not only help with productivity and organization, but will help you keep track of memorable moments. If you’re not looking to start a new hobby, use this time to get back to your reading list or pick back up on the last season of that show you started. You can even watch with friends and family not in your home by using watch party apps like Kast or Discord. This also goes for game nights—whether playing in person board games with your household or video and party games online with friends, you’re sure to have a good time.

Organization. Use this time to declutter or organize your home. Try reorganizing your closet or optimizing your at-home office or study space. When you’ve gone through all your belongings, you can donate unwanted items to shelters near you.
