Labor day is right around the corner! Before we know it, warm summer nights will be replaced with crisp fall mornings, and that means the kids will be back at school. While the kids are likely excited about showing off their new outfits and school supplies, parents know that back to school means hectic days are ahead. We’re ready to help with these tips to organize your home for back to school.
The Organization Station
An organization station can act as a central hub for both getting ready for and coming home from school. Create a simple, yet effective, place for the kids to keep their supplies, leaving behind the days of coming home and hurling their backpacks all over the great room!
A great interpretation of the organization station features large plastic bins in which the kids could put their backpacks, smaller bins with dividers intended for any homework, grades or permission slips they might get, and homework charts and calendars on the wall to help with communication. The organization station can also help keep messes to a controlled location, such as the mud room or family entry.
Snack Prep
A clean and organized kitchen can save you loads of time when homework and projects creep up. That’s why we suggest applying a popular trend, meal prepping, to your lunch packing agenda.
Clear out a tray in your refrigerator and set up baggies filled with healthy snacks like grapes, carrots, apple slices, and clementines. Do the same thing in your pantry with crackers, granola bars, and pretzels. You’ll love only having to make a sandwich since you’ll already have prepared snacks ready to go. Plus, this is a great opportunity to get the kids more involved in their meals!
Get Off to a Quick Start
Getting off to great start is the key for any successful school day, and the bathroom is a vital space to organize as you prepare for back to school. Start off by installing some simple hooks with labels for each kid’s towel to help keep them from winding up in a wad on the floor. Next, make sure each kid has their own space to keep all necessary toiletries in. Whether it’s a bag they can keep in their room, a drawer in the vanity, or a bin somewhere in the bathroom, keeping everyone’s stuff separate will help things run smoothly.
