Essential Items You Need When Moving into Your New Home

Lombardo Living

Whether you’ve just moved in and find yourself surrounded by boxes left to be unpacked, or are in the final stages of moving, there are a few major necessities you’ll need to have on hand during the moving process. While these may seem obvious, it’s easy to forget even the smallest things when undergoing a move, and even easier to forget where they might be packed! Make sure you have these items handy as you move into your new home.

  1. Chargers.

Make sure you have all chargers for any tech you’ll need access to, such as phones, laptops, or tablets. Be sure to keep them handy when you’re moving by placing them in an easy-to-reach spot, such as a backpack, purse, or clearly labeled box. The last thing you want is to be without your phone while you’re unpacking, or even cut off from your music playlist or the show you’ve been binge-watching!

  1. Cleaning supplies.

Even though you’re moving into a well-cleaned new construction home, moving can be a messy process. You might find yourself surrounded by dust, dirt, and trash. Spray cleaners, disinfectant wipes, and rags should be on your list, as well as a broom and dustpan, mop, and vacuum. Keep junk and packing materials down with plenty trash bags and a box for recyclable materials.

  1. Snacks and beverages.

Moving and unpacking boxes is exhausting – and often causes you to work up an appetite. Having food that’s easy to grab and eat when you’re moving and perhaps not fully set up for cooking is essential. Fruits, veggies, granola bars, and trail mix are easy to choose from and don’t require much by way of preparation or utensils, making them perfect for satisfying your stomach. Water, juice, and soda will keep you hydrated and energized. This might be the optimal time to try out some local pizza places, too!

  1. First aid kit.

This should be a staple in your home at all times, but when you’re in the process of moving, it’s especially important that you have one handy should you acquire any scrapes or bruises. Bandages, antiseptic, gauze, tweezers, and cotton swaps are a good place to start.

  1. Bedroom materials.

If you’re going to be sleeping in your new home as you move in, you’ll need to remember pillows, blankets, and bedsheets. (Pro tip: Make your bed early in the day so you don’t have to deal with it right before bed!) A pair of pajamas and other spare clothes will also allow you to shift from night to day and back again when bedtime comes back around.

  1. Toiletries.

It would be a nightmare to have forgotten bathroom necessities when you’re moving, especially following a long day of unpacking and setting up your new home. Stock your bathrooms with toilet paper, towels, and washcloths, as well as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, and conditioner. Don’t forget a shower curtain and bathmat, too!
