Creativity & Design

This past week’s warm weather in Michigan and St. Louis confirmed what we’ve all been waiting for: spring is finally here!

The HomeMade blog is celebrating the return of spring with a spring-themed DIY project. I fell in love with these succulent planters from Homey Oh My! and decided to modify the project to incorporate one of my home’s decorating staples: mason jars. These cute, simple DIY mason jar vases are an easy way to add a pop of spring color to your kitchen table, great room, or study.

What you need:

  1. Mason jar (I used smaller jars for this project)
  2. White spray paint
  3. Copper foiling tape

How to make it:

  1. Place the jars upside-down on a covered surface (preferably outside) and spray evenly with 2-3 coats of paint. Give the paint 5-10 minutes to dry between each coat. Let the jars stand for one hour, or until the paint is fully dry.
  2. Carefully use the copper foiling tape to create designs on the jars. I chose horizontal stripes with diagonal accents, but vertical lines, diagonal lines, or diamond shapes would also work well.
  3. Add plants – real or artificial, depending on your style and green thumb – and display in your home.
