Our sales team is the heart and soul of our company. Each sales manager wears a variety of hats, from guiding our homeowners through the sales and building process, to handling mounds of paperwork and serving as a liaison between our customers and staff.
Debbie Kern manages Wynstone South, a stunning wooded community tucked away in Oakland Township. I recently chatted with Debbie to learn a little more about her – where she started, what she likes about her career, advice for homebuyers, and more.
How long have you worked for Lombardo Homes?
I’ve been working for Lombardo Homes for 8 years.
How long have you worked in new construction/sales?
I’ve worked in new construction for 13 years.
How did you get into this business? What interested you in the beginning?
Prior to new home sales, I was doing short-term corporate housing for corporate relocation. It was satisfying, but something was missing. My sister was working for a builder at the time and she was always so happy and excited to help people achieve their dream of homeownership. She said, “This is what you need to be doing – it’s the best feeling.” And, she was right! I can’t imagine doing anything else.
What do you like best about your job?
Meeting all the people and guiding them through the build process. Just seeing their faces when they start to see product go into the home makes my day. I love when they send me pictures from their homes! It makes me feel like a part of the family when they come back and show me how the kids have grown or that another one is on the way.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I really enjoy working out and being outside as much as possible.
What’s your favorite restaurant in the area? What do you usually order?
Rochester Chop House. Get the crab legs!
What’s one thing you wish all prospective homebuyers knew before they visit the sales office?
Knowing how much you’re preapproved for before pricing out a home is so helpful. It helps determine which features are “must-haves” during the build and what you can do on your own later. There’s nothing worse than building your dream home on paper and then finding out you’re preapproved for a lesser amount or you don’t qualify at all.
